Sent via form submission from The Monstera Sport Database

Your Full Name: Owen Hart

Last Name of the Person Who Discovered The Potential Sport: Hart

Have you submitted a sport before? And if so, what number would this submission be?: 1

Mutation Expression: White Expressing

Color/Pattern Description: Sectored (Large sections of the leaves contain solid expressions of the mutation)

Striped (Several strips of the expressed mutation can be seen branching from the midrib)

Mottled (Overlapping mutations evenly expressed on top of one another)

Multilayered (Variegation is present on more than the surface layer)

Speckled (Tiny distributed spots or specks of the expressed mutation can be observed), Visible on internodes, Visible on petiole, Visible on midrib

Does your sport have any morphological properties that are consistent? Such as strange shaped leaves, odd textures, etc. If so, please describe:: There are some strange leaves on my sport. Some leaves have overlapping parts, some have weird petioles, some leaves are very round. The plant has also branches at one point, however it didn’t use an axilary bud. It just created a new growth point without using the bud. That new branch is slightly variegated as well.

Have you propagated this sport yet?: Yes

If so, how many successful propagations have you managed so far? And what were your primary methods?: It sort of self propagated somehow. But that is the only way I have “propagated”.

Have you had any reversions? If so how many from your total propagation numbers?: The branched section is less variegated, but there is only one leaf so far, so I won’t count that as reverted.

When did the mutation occur?: Seedling stage

And lastly, what's the story? How did you discover this plant? Paint us a picture!: In the summer of 2020, my mom bought 3 “jumbo” monstera from Trader Joe’s. Two for herself and one for me. I went home to LA for the summer and brought my monstera back to the Bay Area. I FaceTime my mom one night and we talked about how our monsteras were growing. She said “I don’t know what’s wrong with mine, but it’s growing white”. There were two leaves, one with a bit of white and the other with a large section of white. This was when I was just getting into more uncommon plants, so I was super excited and surprised. When I visited next, I noticed that every leaf had some variegation on it, with the earlier leaves expressing green on green variegation. I then repotted it into a separate pot and it has been growing steadily (but slowly) since, with more and more consistent white variegation.
