our Full Name: Emily Weller
Last Name of the Person Who Discovered The Potential Sport: Weller
Have you submitted a sport before? And if so, what number would this submission be?: 1
Mutation Expression: Yellow Expressing
Color/Pattern Description: Sectored (Large sections of the leaves contain solid expressions of the mutation)
Multilayered (Variegation is present on more than the surface layer)
Visible on internodes, Visible on petiole, Visible on midrib
Does your sport have any morphological properties that are consistent? Such as strange shaped leaves, odd textures, etc. If so, please describe:
Have you propagated this sport yet?: Yes
If so, how many successful propagations have you managed so far? And what were your primary methods?: 4/4 successful propagations! I water propagated with the first and air layered the rest.
Have you had any reversions? If so how many from your total propagation numbers?: One potential reversion- she likes to skip leaves occasionally so it’s hard to tell. 1/4 reverted.
When did the mutation occur?: Seedling stage
And lastly, what's the story? How did you discover this plant? Paint us a picture!: I found a rough looking monstera at Meijer (local grocery chain) in Grand Haven, Michigan right around the start of the pandemic (~April 2020). I was just getting into plants and decided to try to rehab her. After a month of rehabbing, a leaf came out with a small patch of beautiful sectoral cream colored variegation and there was a stripe down the midrib. I felt like I won the lottery! I checked the rest of the plant (it was actually 5 separate plants in one pot I realized) and I separated the variegated plant from the rest. Two leaves displayed variegation, and they both contained it in the midrib. I love this plant’s variegation because it evolves. New growth displays cream variegation which, depending on light given, develops into a pale yellow (high light) or a lime green (lower). I like to call it my lemon lime surprise because I never know what it’s going to throw out. I’m not sure what to call it so I’m going with yellow expressing, but some variegation almost looks minty or green on green.
